Katowice increases subsidies for Upper Silesian Pantheon

The Katowice City Council has increased the 2026 subsidy for the Upper Silesian Pantheon by 200,000 PLN, bringing the total to 1.2 million PLN. This decision follows a similar funding increase by the Silesian Voivodeship Sejmik.

The local government intervention comes after the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage decided to end its co-management of the institution at the end of 2025. The Ministry stated that its investment support phase has concluded, resulting in the withdrawal of its annual 1 million PLN subsidy.

The Pantheon, located in the crypts of the Katowice Cathedral, commemorates the centenary of Upper Silesia's incorporation into Poland in 1922, the centenary of Polish ecclesiastical administration in the region, and the three Silesian Uprisings. Currently, the institution is managed by the Silesian Voivodeship Marshal's Office in cooperation with the Katowice City Hall and the Katowice Archdiocese.
