Katowice marks 161st city rights anniversary with free two‑day music festival

The city of Katowice will celebrate the 161st anniversary of its city rights on 9‑12 September with a series of free outdoor concerts in the Strefa Kultury. The main program runs on Friday, 11 September and Saturday, 12 September, featuring the legendary rock group Dżem performing with more than a hundred guitarists, the return of the hip‑hop‑soul band SISTARS – its first open‑air concert in over a decade – and headline sets by Vito Bambino, Grubson, Bass Astral and BRK. Additional acts include Łąki Łan, Kasia Sienkiewicz, Fukaj and the local group Sami.

The festivities begin on Wednesday, 9 September, with the unveiling of a bust of costume designer Barbara Ptak on Plac Grunwaldzki, an ecumenical service at the Evangelical church on Warszawska Street, and performances by the New Music Orchestra, Camerata Silesia singers and violinist Adam Bałdych. A separate NGO festival will be held on Saturday in Park Powstańców Śląskich.
