Katowice to host synagogue music concert for Jewish Community anniversary

A concert titled ‘Music of Silesian Synagogues’ will be held in Katowice on September 27, 2026, at the Evangelical Church of the Resurrection of the Lord. The event commemorates the 160th anniversary of the Katowice Jewish Community, which was established as an independent organization in 1866.

The performance aims to revive a forgotten repertoire of psalms, hymns, and prayers that characterized 19th and 20th-century Silesian synagogues. The program features compositions from various cantors, including Solomon Ludwig Ehrlich, Moritz Tintner, Eduard Hamburger, and Moritz Deutsch, as well as an organ piece by Louis Lewandowski. The concert seeks to recreate the historical liturgical sound of a cantor, mixed choir, and organ.
