Katrineholm and Eskilstuna recognized in Swedish environmental rankings

In the 18th annual ranking of Sweden's best environmental municipalities by Aktuell Hållbarhet, Katrineholm was named the top performer in the small cities and towns category. Katrineholm earned 20.66 points out of a possible 33.5, ranking 10th overall among all 290 Swedish municipalities. Notable environmental efforts cited include the establishment of new wetlands.

In the larger cities and municipalities category, Eskilstuna secured second place, maintaining its high standing from previous years. Eskilstuna's success is attributed to systematic work toward climate goals, including advancements in construction reuse at ReTuna Återbruksgalleria and large-scale testing of electric-powered construction equipment. Södertälje was named the overall winner of the ranking.

The report notes that changes in transport emissions, influenced by the abolition of the reduction obligation for biofuels, have caused shifts in the rankings. Additionally, the proportion of electrified vehicles has been included as a key metric for the first time, benefiting municipalities with high electrification rates.
