Ibrahim Babangida celebrated by Nigerian leaders on 85th birthday

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and various political leaders have extended congratulations to former military President General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida on his 85th birthday.

President Tinubu described Babangida as an outstanding leader whose eight-year administration left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s political, economic, and geographic landscape. The President specifically credited Babangida’s foresight and sense of equity for the creation of several states within the federation.

Other notable tributes came from the Northern Senators Forum, which highlighted Babangida’s role in state creation and the relocation of the federal capital from Lagos to Abuja. Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda also praised the former leader, noting that the creation of Katsina State in 1987 provided the region with a distinct identity and developmental opportunities.

Babangida, who led the nation following the 1985 coup, celebrated the milestone with family and friends at his residence in Minna, Niger State.
