Katsina State launches campaign to plant 11 million trees by 2030

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has launched the Katsina-One-Tree Initiative (KT1T), a statewide campaign to plant and nurture 11 million trees by 2030. The program aims to combat desertification, restore degraded lands, and enhance climate resilience across all 34 local government areas and 6,652 Climate Intervention Areas.

The initiative will begin with a target of planting two million trees in 2026. Governor Radda emphasized that the program's success will be measured by the survival and maturity of the trees rather than the quantity of seedlings distributed. He noted that environmental protection is vital for agricultural productivity and food security, as climate-related issues like flooding and desertification threaten livelihoods and can drive poverty by increasing food prices and land competition.
