Katsukiya Yame Honten opens at Fukushima Hachimangu Shrine

Katsukiya Yame Honten officially opened on September 5, 2026, within the grounds of Fukushima Hachimangu Shrine in Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture. The establishment occupies the site formerly known as ‘Kamikake Chaya’.

Specializing in traditional Japanese steamed glutinous rice (okowa), the restaurant has roots dating back to 1961. The menu features okowa sets served in wooden steaming baskets alongside seasonal ingredients, such as grilled fish and miso soup. Additionally, the venue offers sweets made with Yame tea from the long-established producer Ushijima Seicha, including matcha parfaits and shaved ice.

Prior to the opening, a ‘Kaiten Hokosai’ ceremony was held on September 4 to pray for business prosperity and the well-being of visitors. The new facility includes 32 seats, divided between dining and cafe areas.
