Katumba Wamala retires after 47 years of service in Uganda

General Katumba Wamala has retired from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) after 47 years of service. The retirement ceremony took place at State House Entebbe, where President Yoweri Museveni honored Katumba and 18 other generals for their roles in maintaining peace and security within Uganda and the surrounding region.

Katumba’s career spanned from the country’s liberation struggle in 1980 to high-ranking civilian and military roles. He previously served as Commander of Land Forces, Chief of Defence Forces from 2005 to 2013, and Inspector General of Police. Since 2021, he has served as the Minister of Works and Transport.

In his farewell remarks, Katumba described his journey as one defined by sacrifice, duty, and a deep love for the country. Former Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi also paid tribute to the General, praising his humility, accessibility, and commitment to the well-being of ordinary citizens.
