Katy Marchant retires from track cycling after Olympic success
Olympic track cycling champion Katy Marchant has announced her retirement from professional cycling after a 13-year career with the Great Britain Cycling Team. The 33-year-old sprinter leaves the sport following a highly decorated career that included winning gold in the women’s team sprint at the Paris 2024 Olympics alongside teammates Emma Finucane and Sophie Capewell.
Marchant’s achievements include two Olympic medals, three World Championship medals, seven European Championship medals, and two Commonwealth Games medals. She also holds the world record in the team sprint. Her career highlights include an individual sprint bronze at the Rio 2016 Olympics and a successful return to elite competition after becoming a mother in 2022.
Reflecting on her decision, Marchant stated that she wanted to finish her career on her own terms rather than being forced out by physical limitations or the demands of training for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
