Kaufland expands Lidl product range and trials smart shopping carts

German retailer Kaufland is piloting smart shopping carts equipped with a tablet‑mounted scanner in Jettigen, Baden‑Württemberg. The carts allow shoppers to scan items by pointing the tablet at products, aiming to speed up checkout and reduce reliance on handheld devices.

Separately, Kaufland will increase the presence of Lidl brands in its stores. Both chains belong to the Schwarz Group, and the company announced that more Lidl‑label goods will appear on Kaufland shelves, widening the range of affordable household and food items available to customers.

Kaufland also continues broader digital initiatives, such as testing pharmacy terminals for prescription fulfilment and expanding its network of electric‑vehicle charging stations at store parking lots.
