Kaufland and Hochland expand plant-based product offerings

The plant-based food market in Germany is seeing significant shifts in branding and production. The Hochland Group, a major traditional cheese manufacturer known for brands like Almette and Patros, produces the vegan cheese alternative brand ‘Simply V’. Originally developed in the Allgäu region using almonds as a base, the product line has expanded to include various plant-based fats and coconut components, while avoiding soy and palm oil.

Simultaneously, the retailer Kaufland is rebranding its vegan private label. The ‘K-Take It Veggie’ brand, which launched in 2020 with pea-protein meat substitutes, is being replaced by ‘K-Plant Based’. This change is part of a broader realignment to make private labels more internationally understandable and easily recognizable. The new brand will continue to offer over 100 items, including vegan minced meat and chunks, as part of a unified brand appearance.
