Kaufland creamed spinach receives top rating in Öko-Test
A recent study by Öko-Test evaluated 22 different brands of frozen creamed spinach to assess quality and nutritional content. Out of the brands tested, only four achieved the highest rating of 'very good'.
Kaufland's private label organic product, K-Bio creamed spinach, emerged as the sole organic winner in the test, receiving a 'very good' rating with no significant defects found in its ingredients. The product is priced at 1.79 euros for a 450-gram package.
The report also addressed common nutritional misconceptions regarding spinach. While often cited as a high-iron food, spinach contains only 3 to 4 milligrams of iron per 100 grams, a level comparable to other green vegetables. Additionally, the study noted that creamed spinach is significantly higher in calories and fat than plain spinach. Consumers are advised to store spinach in the refrigerator to prevent the conversion of nitrate into nitrite, which can be harmful, especially to children.
