Kaufland tests smart cart add‑on in German store

Kaufland’s German branch in Jettingen‑Oberjettingen is testing a clip‑on attachment for ordinary shopping carts. The module lets customers log in via the Kaufland Card Xtra loyalty card or mobile app and scan items directly into the trolley, reducing the time spent unloading at self‑service checkout, especially for large purchases. The system runs alongside the existing K‑Scan handheld scanners and includes two cameras for real‑time scanning, but it does not feature weight sensors for theft protection.

In the Czech Republic, Kaufland has not introduced the smart‑cart technology yet. Instead, Czech stores use AI‑enabled scales in the fruit and vegetable department that visually identify items and suggest the most likely product, speeding up the weighing process.
