Kaunas expands shelter funding to non-state schools
The Kaunas City Council has approved updates to the city’s shelter installation program to enhance civil protection. While the program previously focused on providing municipal funding for residents of multi-apartment buildings, it will now expand to include non-state preschool and general education institutions, including their branches and subsidiaries.
The initiative aims to ensure the safety of children, teachers, and staff in the event of emergencies or military threats. Municipal funding can cover up to 100 percent of eligible costs, which include structural reinforcement, emergency exits, ventilation, backup power supplies, and water and sewage systems. The city allocates 100,000 euros annually to this program.
