Kaunas officials invite artists to expand city public art programs

Kaunas city officials and approximately 60 Lithuanian artists met to discuss expanding the city's open-air art gallery. The meeting focused on the 'Kaunas Accents' program and the 'Living Walls' initiative, exploring opportunities for financing and implementing new creative works in public spaces.

Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis invited artists to propose ideas ranging from sculptures and design objects to street art and murals. Saulius Rimas, head of the City Development and Heritage Department, encouraged creators to look beyond central locations like Laisvės Alėja and the Old Town to discover more diverse spaces throughout the city. The 'Kaunas Accents' program has been active since 2017, having already seen the implementation of 155 projects.
