Kaunas Pride and LT Pride face criticism over political direction

The recent Kaunas Pride and LT Pride events in Lithuania have drawn significant criticism from within the LGBTQ+ community regarding their political direction and organizational communication.

Director Romas Zabarauskas criticized both organizers, stating that their decisions are harming the pursuit of equality for LGBT+ Lithuanians. He specifically targeted the Lithuanian Gay League (LGL) and its long-term leader, Vladimiras Simonko, citing poor communication and an overly commercialized approach that allows corporate branding to overshadow human rights demands.

Controversy also arose during Kaunas Pride due to the inclusion of political solidarity with Palestine. This led to confrontations, including an incident where the head of the Kaunas Jewish community shouted at protesters. Artūras Rudomanskis, chairman of the Tolerant Youth Association, acknowledged communication errors but urged supporters to continue participating, arguing that while Pride can be a space for solidarity with other oppressed groups, the primary focus should remain on LGBTQ+ rights.
