Kaunas to host new 45-meter observation wheel on Nemuno sala

A new 45-meter-high observation wheel is set to be installed on Nemuno sala in Kaunas this autumn. The mobile, assembly-based device will feature climate-controlled and heated gondolas, offering panoramic views of the Old Town, New Town, and the developing left bank of the Nemunas River.

Kaunas Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis noted that the wheel is a mobile unit not permanently fixed to the ground, allowing it to be relocated to other areas in the future, such as near the Darius and Girėnas Stadium. He addressed potential landscape concerns by citing similar installations in UNESCO heritage cities like Budapest, Vienna, and Tallinn, which have not faced objections from UNESCO.

The location on Nemuno sala was chosen based on manufacturer recommendations and is not within a UNESCO World Heritage site, though it will provide a bird's-eye view of the city's historic and developing districts.
