Kauno Žalgiris secures Lithuanian league and cup double

Croatian coach Željko Sopić has led Kauno Žalgiris to a domestic double in Lithuania, winning both the league title and the Lithuanian Cup within a 20-day period.

The club mathematically secured the league championship following a 4:1 away victory against Hegelmann. Despite conceding an early goal in the second minute, Kauno Žalgiris overturned the deficit before halftime, with goals from Leon Kreković and Gabriel Debeljuh. Debeljuh scored twice, and Ivan Fiolić added a final goal during stoppage time. This victory brings the team to 58 points, seven ahead of second-placed Žalgiris Vilnius.

This achievement follows the club's Lithuanian Cup victory on October 11, where they defeated Minija 3:0. Sopić, who took over the team in late June after leaving Osijek, has secured these two trophies in just four months. Croatian players, including Kreković, Debeljuh, and Fiolić, played central roles in both decisive matches.
