Kauno energija fined over 163,000 euros for boiler violations
The State Energy Regulatory Council (VERT) has imposed a fine of more than 163,000 euros on the centralized heat supplier Kauno energija. The penalty follows an unplanned inspection that identified violations regarding the operation of water heating boilers during the recent winter season.
According to VERT, investigators found that seals on unused burners had been intentionally removed from one boiler, allowing the company to operate it at nearly double its permitted capacity. Additionally, the company was found to be operating a new water heating boiler before the required commissioning procedures had been completed.
Matas Taparauskas, Deputy Chairman of VERT, stated that such violations pose risks to employees, the environment, and public health and safety. The fine considers the company’s cooperation during the investigation and the fact that no actual harm to consumers was recorded. Kauno energija is required to pay the fine within 30 calendar days.
