Kaushal Kishore Jaiswal plants 6.5 million trees over 60 years

Dr. Kaushal Kishore Jaiswal, known as the ‘Tree Man’ of Palamu, Jharkhand, has dedicated approximately 60 years to environmental conservation through the free distribution and planting of over 6.5 million saplings.

His efforts began in 1966 and have expanded from his private land to 181 districts across 26 Indian states, as well as several international locations including Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Singapore, Malaysia, Azerbaijan, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, and Vietnam.

Central to his mission is the ‘Van Rakhi Movement,’ a campaign spanning nearly five decades that encourages people to treat trees as family members. This movement includes the symbolic practice of tying rakhis to approximately 3 million trees to promote their protection and care. Dr. Jaiswal has received various national and international awards, including recent recognition from the Governor of Jharkhand, for his lifelong commitment to combating pollution and promoting a greener planet.
