Kaushambi firecracker factory explosion kills 11
A massive explosion at a firecracker factory in Manori village, Kaushambi district, Uttar Pradesh, has resulted in at least 11 deaths and five injuries. Among the deceased are eight children aged between 4 and 13 years. Most of the victims were neighbors of the factory who died while receiving treatment at SRN Hospital in Prayagraj.
The blast caused extensive destruction, collapsing several nearby houses and damaging structures within a 100-meter radius. The intensity of the explosion also disrupted train movement on the Delhi-Howrah railway line for approximately one hour. Rescue operations involving the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and Indian Air Force personnel are ongoing to search for potential survivors trapped under the rubble.
Authorities report that the factory may have been operating illegally, as its license had reportedly been canceled in 2024. In response to the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced ex-gratia compensation of 200,000 rupees for the families of the deceased and 50,000 rupees for the injured. Seven police personnel have been suspended in connection with the incident, and the main accused has been arrested following a shootout.
