Kavala forest fire leads to arrest of two Bulgarian citizens

Two Bulgarian citizens, a 37-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man, have been arrested in Greece in connection with a forest fire near Kavala. The incident occurred around 11:00 AM on Tuesday in the Orfanou area of the Pangeo municipality.

Initial reports indicate the fire originated from a vehicle, which then spread to adjacent dry vegetation and forest land. While the individuals have been detained by the specialized arson investigation unit in Kavala, authorities have not yet confirmed if the fire was started intentionally. The investigation is focused on determining whether the pair is responsible for the spread of the flames or if they failed to follow necessary safety measures.

Emergency response efforts included 34 firefighters, eight fire engines, two infantry groups, two aircraft, and two helicopters. The fire has since been contained, and officials report there are no longer active fire fronts.
