Kavinsky: French electronic music community honors DJ in Montmartre

The French electronic music community gathered in Montmartre, Paris, on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, to pay final respects to DJ and producer Kavinsky, born Vincent Belorgey. The 50-year-old artist was found dead at his home in late July, shortly before his 51st birthday. An investigation by the Paris prosecutor's office was opened to determine the cause of death, though no suspicious elements were initially reported.

More than 500 people attended the ceremony at the Saint-Pierre de Montmartre church. The service featured his hit song ‘Nightcall’ and the theme from ‘Jaws’, which accompanied his coffin into the church. Notable figures from the ‘French Touch’ scene were in attendance, including Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk, members of the duo Justice (Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay), Pedro Winter, and director Quentin Dupieux.

Kavinsky gained international fame for his synthwave aesthetic and the track ‘Nightcall’, which became a cultural staple after being featured in the 2011 film ‘Drive’. His influence extended to major global events, including a performance during the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
