Kawasaki Heavy Industries and EdgeCortix partner for AI aerial defense

Kawasaki Heavy Industries and EdgeCortix have entered into a multi-year teaming agreement to develop next-generation, AI-enabled aerial defense systems. The multi-million-dollar program is scheduled to run from 2026 through 2028.

The partnership aims to integrate EdgeCortix’s energy-efficient, chiplet-based AI processing hardware and MERA software stack with Kawasaki’s aerospace and defense engineering expertise. The collaboration will focus on feasibility studies, system integration, and the development of prototype platforms designed to embed low-latency AI computing directly into aerial mission systems.

By performing real-time sensor fusion, object recognition, and threat assessment at the edge, the technology seeks to reduce transmission latency and bandwidth requirements on tactical data links. The project intends to deliver high-throughput neural network processing within the strict power and thermal constraints typical of aerial defense environments.
