KAYAK research highlights challenges of pet travel in Brazil
A new study by KAYAK highlights the growing trend and challenges of traveling with pets in Brazil, which holds the third-largest pet population in the world with approximately 168 million animals. According to the research, 24% of Brazilians have traveled by plane with their pets in the last two years, and 18% intend to do so in the coming year.
Despite the trend, travelers face significant hurdles. The primary difficulties cited include airline bureaucracy and restrictions (35%), animal stress during travel (34%), and various costs such as airline fees, veterinary certificates, insurance, and transport crates (32%).
To assist travelers, KAYAK has released a practical guide to help navigate these complexities. Experts emphasize the importance of early planning and checking specific airline requirements, as while the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) sets general guidelines, individual carriers maintain their own rules regarding documentation, accommodation, and fees.
