Kayalvizhi Alagiri Booked After Slapping SBI Manager in Chennai
On 20 July 2026, Kayalvizhi Alagiri – daughter of former Union Minister M.K. Alagiri and granddaughter of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi – allegedly slapped the manager of the State Bank of India’s NRI branch in Adyar, Chennai. The confrontation arose over a malfunctioning lift in a commercial building that Kayalvizhi owns, which houses the SBI branch. CCTV cameras captured her standing before the manager, mocking his posture and then striking him across the face, while an accompanying person tried to restrain her.
The video went viral on social media, prompting the SBI chief manager to lodge a formal complaint. Chennai police registered an FIR charging Kayalvizhi with assault, criminal intimidation and related offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and she has been booked under four sections of the law. The investigation is ongoing and Kayalvizhi has not made a public response.
