KAYO state company faces allegations of international arms trafficking

Allegations of international arms trafficking involving the Albanian state-owned company KAYO have surfaced following the release of audio recordings by Arben Ahmetaj. The recordings reportedly suggest a scheme involving businessman Ron Yeffet and the company TIMAK Defense. According to the claims, weapons produced in countries such as Sudan or Niger would be packaged in Albania for transit to Ukraine.

Ardi Veliu, the administrator of KAYO, has denied these accusations. Veliu stated that it is impossible for products manufactured elsewhere to be packaged in Albania for export and emphasized that the company must adhere to strict licensing and legislative regulations. He maintained that KAYO is a trading company with the right to engage in export activities following proper legal procedures.

The controversy has sparked political tension, with critics questioning whether the Albanian Ministry of Defense has provided accurate information to Parliament regarding the nation's domestic arms production capabilities. The Democratic Party has called for investigations to ensure national and NATO security are not compromised.
