Kayoko Shiraishi and Morio Kazama premiere Kojiki reading drama
A new reading drama based on the Kojiki, the ancient Japanese chronicle of mythology, has premiered at Theater 1010 in Tokyo. Performed by veteran actors Kayoko Shiraishi and Morio Kazama, the production offers a humorous and accessible interpretation of Japan's creation myths.
The stage design is minimalist, featuring only a bench and two lights, allowing the performers to bring the epic scale of the mythology to life through voice, movement, and song. The play covers significant mythological events, including the union of Izanagi and Izanami, the descent of the heavenly grandson, and the slaying of the Yamata no Orochi by Susanoo.
The production is scheduled to tour five cities across Japan, including locations in Hyogo, Gunma, Tochigi, and Hokkaido, following its initial Tokyo performances.
