Kayseri begins major pumpkin seed harvest
The pumpkin seed harvest season has begun in Kayseri, a region that serves as a major hub for snack pumpkin seed production in Türkiye. Spanning approximately 336,000 decares, the cultivation in this province accounts for roughly 30% to 35% of the country's total pumpkin seed requirement.
As the crops reach maturity, the fields around the foothills of Mount Erciyes have turned vibrant shades of yellow and orange. This agricultural activity provides significant economic value to the local region, with production concentrated in areas such as Tomarza, Develi, and Yeşilhisar.
Farmers report average yields of 130 to 160 kilograms per decare. Following the harvest, the seeds undergo a process of separation and drying to prepare them for market. Local producers refer to the crop as ‘yellow gold’ due to its visual appeal and its importance as a primary source of livelihood for the community.
