Kayseri blueberry project uses pot cultivation to bypass soil issues

In Kayseri, Professor Kahraman Gürcan of Erciyes University has implemented an innovative blueberry cultivation project that utilizes specialized pots to bypass soil acidity issues. This method, developed through five years of academic research, serves as a domestic alternative to varieties imported from Spain and the Netherlands.

The project involves 17,000 specialized 35-liter pots across a 38-decare area in the İncesu district. Supported by a 12 million lira investment and subsidized loans, the model aims to allow individuals with small land plots to engage in high-yield farming. While initial yields were 1 kilogram per pot, the goal is to reach 3 kilograms as the plants mature. The blueberries, which currently sell for a minimum of 400 lira per kilogram in the market, are intended to be sold in Kayseri markets at a more accessible price range of 250 to 350 lira.
