Turkish police hand out record fines to fleeing drunk drivers in Bursa and Kayseri

In Bursa, police stopped a driver who failed to obey a “dur” warning during an alcohol check. The driver, Adem K., registered a blood‑alcohol level of 0.88 ‰, attempted to flee, was pursued and caught five kilometres away, and was fined 232,719 TL. His vehicle was seized for two months.

In Kayseri, a similar chase occurred when driver E. K. ignored a police warning, was later apprehended at his home, and recorded a blood‑alcohol level of 2.05 ‰. He received a 432,000 TL administrative fine and a 60‑day traffic ban. A passenger, his brother C. K., resisted police and faced legal action for endangering traffic safety. Both incidents highlight an intensified crackdown on drunk‑driving offenses across Turkey.
