Kayseri Şeker holds ordinary financial general assembly, warns of sector challenges

Kayseri Şeker Fabrikası AŞ convened its ordinary financial general assembly on 15 July at the Şehitleri Conference Hall in Kayseri. The meeting began with a moment of silence and the reading of the national anthem, and was chaired by board president Harun Halıcı. Shareholders attended both electronically and in person, agenda items were read and voted on, and a new board member was elected to fill a vacancy.

During the session, Hüseyin Akay, president of the Kayseri Pancar Ekicileri Kooperatifi, highlighted serious structural problems in Turkey’s sugar industry. He noted that production quotas set by the Ministry of Agriculture have led to a surplus, exacerbated by imports of starch‑based sugar and chemical sweeteners that undermine natural beet sugar. Akay warned that these trends hurt producers, rural livelihoods, and the national economy, and called on authorities to protect the sector. He also expressed optimism for the 2026 harvest, citing higher expected yields and better sugar content.
