Kayseri Hosts 7th International Kültepe Archaeology Conference with 49 Scientists

The Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality, with support from Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Erciyes University, organized the 7th International Kültepe Meeting (KIM) in August 2026. The four‑day event brought together 49 scholars from eleven countries—including Australia, Austria, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands and the United States—to discuss research on the Kültepe‑Kaniş‑Karum archaeological site.

Opening remarks were delivered by Kayseri MP Murat Cahid Cıngı, Erciyes University rector Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun, and Culture Ministry excavation director Nihal Metin, followed by keynote talks from leading archaeologists Prof. Dr. Marcella Frangipane and Dr. Jan Gerrit Dercksen. The conference’s scientific program focused on “Food Production and Consumption in the Kültepe Region,” and highlighted upcoming heritage projects such as the Asurlu Traders Street and a new visitor centre for the site.
