Kayseri market and İzmir river cleaning drives boost summer hygiene
Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality carried out a comprehensive cleaning of the city’s Hal market complex in July, targeting vegetable and fruit stalls. Coordinated by the municipality’s Operations Department under Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç, the effort included detailed washing of shared spaces and ongoing maintenance to raise hygiene standards for both vendors and shoppers.
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality’s water utility İZSU launched a 24‑hour cleaning operation on Manda Creek, deploying 42 workers, 12 excavators and 15 trucks. The three‑week project aims to remove accumulated sludge, waste and debris, improve water flow and reduce odour, as part of a city‑wide program that has extracted more than 727,000 tonnes of material from local streams over the past two and a half years. Similar clean‑ups are planned for other waterways feeding the İzmir Gulf.
Both initiatives are part of municipal campaigns to enhance public health and environmental conditions during the summer months.
