Kayseri Mayor Memduh Büyükkılıç Announces New 13.6‑km Tram Line
Kayseri Metropolitan Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç presented details of a new tramway project during a citizen‑question session in Erkilet. The line will be 13.6 kilometres long, linking Bülbülpınarı, the city airport and the Republic Square, with an underground segment running to Abdullah Gül University.
The project’s estimated cost is around 23 billion Turkish lira (about 400–500 million USD). Funding includes a €60 million grant for an advanced biological wastewater plant and a €200 million partially‑granted solid‑waste depot. The tram line is part of broader municipal upgrades, such as the Kartal multi‑level interchange, aimed at easing urban traffic.
Büyükkılıç emphasized that the feasibility study is complete and that the plan will be submitted for presidential approval. Local officials, including the AK Party Kayseri provincial head and the Kocasinan district mayor, attended the event and voiced support for accelerating the works.
