Kayseri Municipality establishes production area for Pinarbasi cumin

The Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality has launched a new initiative to preserve local agricultural heritage by establishing a dedicated production area for Pinarbasi cumin. Located within the Natural Products Garden, this specialized site aims to protect the region's unique agricultural values and promote crop diversity.

The project, led by Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç and implemented by the Hobby Gardens Directorate, serves as a research and development model. By monitoring the growth process in this controlled environment, officials intend to gather data on production techniques, yield, and quality to support local farmers and encourage alternative cultivation.

The initiative also seeks to bolster the product's status in the gastronomy sector. This follows previous recognition from renowned chef Mehmet Yalçınkaya, who described Pinarbasi cumin as one of Turkey's most valuable varieties. The municipality expects the project to enhance agricultural tourism and expand marketing opportunities for local producers.
