Kayseri Pınarbaşı Earthquakes Deemed Low Risk by Geology Expert

Geology engineer Adnan Evsen explained that the series of more than 60 tremors recorded overnight in Kayseri’s Pınarbaşı district on 16 June 2026 were caused by a small secondary fracture rather than an active fault line. The quakes ranged from magnitude 0.8 to 3.9, with the largest being 3.9, and he stressed that the fracture is not capable of generating larger, magnitude‑5.5 or greater events.

The Directorate of Disaster and Emergency Management (AFAD) and Boğaziçi University’s Kandilli Observatory continuously monitor seismic activity across Turkey. Their real‑time data for 16 June listed numerous additional tremors across the country, many of them in the Kayseri region, but no significant damage or casualties were reported.
