Kayshon Boutte trade under scrutiny following Patriots injury

The New England Patriots are facing scrutiny following the trade of wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans. The trade, which involved safety Jaylen Reed and a late-round draft pick, has gained renewed attention after Patriots receiver A.J. Brown suffered an ankle injury during the season opener against the Seattle Seahawks.

In Houston, the Texans reportedly have “immediate plans” to utilize Boutte in their offense starting against the Buffalo Bills. This rapid integration is aided by offensive coordinator Nick Caley, a former Patriots assistant whose playbook shares similarities with the system Boutte used in New England. The Texans sought depth at the position following a season-ending ACL injury to Jayden Higgins during training camp.

Despite the recent injury to Brown and a struggling performance by other receivers like Romeo Doubs, Patriots general manager Eliot Wolf and head coach Mike Vrabel previously downplayed the loss of Boutte, characterizing the transaction as a “win-win.”
