Israel and Morocco to upgrade diplomatic ties to full embassies

Israel and Morocco have agreed to upgrade their diplomatic relations by elevating their respective liaison offices to full embassies and appointing ambassadors. The announcement followed a trilateral meeting in New York hosted by United States Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz, involving Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar and Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.

The agreement, which builds upon the spirit of the Abraham Accords, includes plans to expand direct air travel between the two nations, with Moroccan airlines expected to resume flights by the end of 2026. Additionally, the two countries aim to finalize bilateral agreements regarding investment protection and the prevention of double taxation by the end of 2026 to bolster economic and trade cooperation.

During the summit, the United States and Israel reaffirmed their recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara and their support for Morocco’s autonomy proposal as the basis for a resolution. The parties also committed to conducting reciprocal high-level bilateral visits in the coming months to further strengthen ties in sectors such as technology, security, agriculture, and energy.
