Kazakhstan considers increased peacekeeping role in Lebanon
The Kazakhstani Ambassador to Lebanon, Rasul Jumali, held a press conference regarding the recent parliamentary elections in Kazakhstan. He noted that the elections and subsequent reforms follow a new constitution that transitioned the country from a presidential to a semi-presidential system, aimed at strengthening the role of parliament under President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Regarding regional security, Ambassador Jumali stated that Kazakhstan supports stability and a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Lebanon. While Kazakhstan currently contributes to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), the Ambassador did not rule out the possibility of increased participation in future UN peacekeeping missions in the country.
Additionally, the Ambassador expressed a commitment to expanding economic, commercial, media, and tourism ties between Kazakhstan and Lebanon.
