Kazakhstan promotes tourism and new constitution to draw investors

Kazakhstan is highlighting its wide‑ranging natural attractions—from the futuristic capital Astana and mountain city Almaty to the Kolsai lakes, Charyn Canyon and the singing dunes of Altyn Emel—as a unique tourism destination. Ambassador Akan Rakhmetullin recommends a 10‑15‑day itinerary that combines urban culture, guided train travel and outdoor adventures.

A March 2026 referendum introduced a new constitution that created a unicameral parliament, added a Vice President role, and emphasised human rights, social protection and a “Listening State.” Parliamentary elections are scheduled for 23 August 2026. The reforms are presented as part of a broader effort to modernise the country and attract foreign capital.

The Netherlands is now Kazakhstan’s largest foreign investor. The two countries cooperate through special economic zones, tax incentives and localisation programmes, positioning Kazakhstan as a bridge between Europe and Asia for Dutch and other European businesses.
