Kazakhstan seeks to expand agricultural exports to Africa

Kazakhstan is actively pursuing new agricultural trade opportunities across the African continent, targeting markets in East and North Africa. In Kenya, Kazakh Ambassador Barlybay Sadykov has held discussions regarding the potential export of wheat, flour, and food processing products. Kenya represents a significant target, having imported 2.2 million tonnes of wheat and meslin valued at $613 million in 2025.

In North Africa, Kazakhstan is engaging with Libya to expand the trade of grain, beef, and lamb. Agriculture Minister Aidarbek Saparov met with Libya’s Agriculture and Livestock Minister Abdel Latif Al-Tahir to discuss improving market access and establishing reliable supply chains. These efforts follow similar outreach to Malawi in September 2026.

Kazakhstan’s agricultural exports have grown significantly, exceeding $7 billion over the last five years. The country recently reported grain harvests of over 27 million tonnes and maintains a large livestock base, including 9.3 million cattle and over 24 million sheep and goats, to support these international expansion efforts.
