Kazakhstani national arrested for vehicle intimidation in Icheon

A 21-year-old Kazakhstani national has been arrested and detained for threatening drivers in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province. The incident occurred on July 29, when the suspect and an accomplice chased a vehicle, blocked its path, and kicked the front of the car.

The case had initially been classified as unsolved after police failed to identify the suspect's license plate. However, following public concern and political scrutiny, the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency conducted a reinvestigation. Forensic analysis successfully partially restored the license plate numbers from dashcam footage, allowing investigators to track the suspect through social media accounts used for vehicle trading among foreign residents.

The suspect was apprehended in Anseong. He claimed he mistook the victim's vehicle for a potential buyer during a failed car sale. An accomplice, also a Kazakhstani national, has already been deported from South Korea for separate immigration violations.
