Kazım Atak must lose 82kg to receive lymphedema treatment

Kazım Atak, a resident of Keşan, Edirne, has been struggling with lymphedema, commonly known as elephant disease, for approximately four years. Due to the condition, Atak is unable to work and relies on a disability pension and donations from philanthropists to survive. He currently uses a three-wheeled electric bicycle provided by supporters to manage daily tasks because of his difficulty walking.

Following an examination at Başakşehir Çam ve Sakura City Hospital in Istanbul, medical professionals determined that Atak must lose weight before treatment can begin. Currently weighing 172 kilograms, he must reach 90 kilograms to qualify for pressure-based therapy, which would require a one-month hospital stay. Atak stated that his primary goal is to reach the required weight to undergo treatment and regain his health.

Atak also noted that he declined offers to be placed in a nursing home, fearing that such a move would prevent him from pursuing active medical treatment.
