Kazuma Okamoto Wins American League Rookie of the Month
Japanese outfielder Kazuma Okamoto of the Toronto Blue Jays was named the American League Rookie of the Month for June. In 25 games he posted a .286 batting average, 7 home runs, 20 RBIs, a .560 slugging percentage and a .916 OPS, leading all AL rookies in homers and tying for second in RBIs.
The award marks the first time in MLB history that more than one Japanese player has received a monthly rookie honor in the same season, following teammate Munetaka Murakami's May award. Japanese fans celebrated the achievement on social media, praising Okamoto’s performance and expressing hopes for a future rookie‑of‑the‑year title.
