Kazushige Nagashima attempts drone filming in Hawaii and Lake Ashi

The TV Asahi variety program ‘Zawatsuku! Friday’ is airing a three-hour special featuring a drone-themed segment. Kazushige Nagashima, who holds a national drone pilot certification, leads the project to capture high-impact aerial footage.

In Japan, Nagashima attempts to film the Torii-yaki Festival fireworks at Lake Ashi in Kanagawa Prefecture. The segment focuses on capturing massive fireworks, including a 200-meter diameter shell, despite challenges such as night flying, strong winds, and battery consumption issues.

In Hawaii, Nagashima conducts a 16-hour filming session on Oahu. The shoot includes attempts to capture sunrises at Kualoa Ranch and footage in the Ka‘a‘awa Valley, a location known as a ‘drone graveyard’ due to dangerous wind conditions. The special also features a culinary competition involving blowpipe contests to win various sweets.
