Kazuyoshi Miura Fukushima United Emperor's Cup 59-year-old goal league calendar shift

Kazuyoshi Miura, the 59‑year‑old Japanese football legend nicknamed “King Kazu”, scored in the 52nd minute of Fukushima United’s 7‑0 victory over Iwaki Furukawa in the Emperor’s Cup on 26 July 2026. The goal lifted the score to 5‑0 and marked Miura’s first competitive strike since November 2022, ending a four‑year drought.

Miura is playing for third‑tier Fukushima United on loan from Yokohama FC; the loan has been extended to June 2027, securing his participation in what will be his 42nd professional season. Japan’s professional leagues are set to change from a spring‑autumn schedule to an autumn‑spring calendar, allowing Miura to continue playing after he turns 60 in February 2027. Over his five‑decade career he began at Santos in Brazil in 1986, has played in Italy, Croatia and Australia, and earned 55 goals in 89 caps for the Japan national team.
