Kazuyoshi Miura sets Emperor's Cup scoring record at age 59

Japanese football legend Kazuyoshi Miura, widely known as ‘King Kazu’, has set a new record as the oldest goalscorer in the history of the Emperor's Cup. At 59 years and 174 days old, Miura scored two penalty goals during a first-round match on August 19.

Playing for the J3 league side Fukushima United, Miura helped his team secure a 7-0 victory against the amateur side Oyama Soccer Club. His performance significantly surpassed the previous record held by Shinji Ono, who was 41 years old when he scored in the competition.

Now entering his 42nd professional season, Miura’s career has spanned multiple countries, including Brazil, Italy, Croatia, and Portugal. This achievement marks his first multiple-goal game in a Japanese official match in 26 years and follows his first official goal in four years scored last month.
