KBC Split expands HIV diagnosis and prevention services
The Clinic for Infectious Diseases at KBC Split has expanded its capabilities regarding the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). A significant development is the decentralization of HIV care; treatment that was previously centralized in Zagreb is now fully available in Split, allowing patients in the Dalmatia region to receive monitoring and therapy locally.
Medical professionals at the clinic have emphasized the importance of prevention and early detection. The facility now offers Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for high-risk individuals and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP), which must be administered within 24 to 72 hours of potential exposure. Increased participation in prevention programs is being attributed to better information accessibility and a greater public willingness to manage health responsibilities. Experts note that rising numbers in testing and prevention programs may lead to more detected cases without necessarily indicating a true increase in infection frequency.
