KBO Commissioner Heo Koo-yeon nominated for third term

The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) has officially recommended current Commissioner Heo Koo-yeon as the sole candidate for a third term. During the fourth board meeting of 2026, more than three-quarters of the board members agreed to recommend Heo to the general assembly for the position of 26th Commissioner.

Under KBO regulations, Heo must secure the support of at least three-quarters of the total members at the general assembly to be officially elected. If successful, his new three-year term will begin in 2027 and continue through 2029. This would make him only the third commissioner in KBO history to serve three consecutive terms, following Park Yong-oh and Koo Bon-nill.

Heo, a former player and commentator, first took office in March 2022 following the mid-term resignation of the previous commissioner. He was re-elected in November 2023. The nomination follows the decision by former Korea Baseball Softball Association president Lee Jong-hoon not to run for the position.
